Memorabilia from a bygone era: Statue of Charles Martel Allemand, Cardinal Lavigerie, who wanted to convert all North Africans to Catholic Christianity in the nineteenth Century.
This statue, which portrayed Lavigerie with a cross in his right hand, was purposely erected in front of the old city of Tunis (the Kasbah), as a French colonial symbol that both the Muslim and Jewish population of Tunisia did not obviously appreciate.
