Mohamed Ali Eltaher

Documents, Correspondence & Photos

This section contains a selection of photographs, correspondence and documents that are of historic significance to the overall website, as well as to the overall history of the Middle East and the Arabs. The material is classified by country, each under its current flag. If the country had a different flag during Mohamed Ali Eltaher’s times, the latter will also display on the page.

It is unfortunate that many items have either disappeared, were stolen, or were simply lost over the years as a result of the multiple moves from one country to another since Eltaher left Egypt in 1955. The main loss took place in Lebanon during the tragic civil war, when one crate of a shipment of three or four crates vanished.

Photographs appearing in the Web site obviously contribute to its visual dimension, but they also illustrate in a concrete manner the range of activities, types of events and extent of diverse networking Eltaher was engaged in.

As described in the biography section, his wide network of contacts was not just useful for specific political or journalistic objectives. Eltaher relied on his network efficiently to help advance the causes of nations seeking independence, provide support to exiled nationalists, solve problems encountered sometimes by expatriate Arab and Muslim students studying in Egypt, and facilitate life for refugees cut off from their homelands as a result of wars. Eltaher’s eagerness to help was invaluable to all these causes and people.

Aside from the illustrations appearing within the biography, a selection of personal photographs of Mr. and Mrs. Eltaher are also included in the present section in order to convey an image of the personal aspect of their life and work.

Photographs displayed as thumbnails are listed in chronological order. By clicking on the selected thumbnail, readers will be able to see an enlarged version of the photograph along with a detailed descriptive caption. Group photographs, which often include individuals from various countries, are duplicated under each country respectively in order for the surfers not to miss anything of interest.

Since the names of many individuals appearing in the photographs could not be ascertained as indicated at time of publication, we would like to thank the readers, who took the initiative and provided us with these names, or the occasion, or the specific date of a particular photograph, or noted that certain individuals were attributed the wrong names and provided us with the proper ones, or finally those who shared with us pertinent photographs that we subsequently added to this website, thus providing welcomed value added. We gratefully encourage more to share when they can by contacting the webmaster at info@eltaher.org.
