Portrait of Colonel Abdallah Al-Tal, Commander of the 6th Battalion of the Arab Legion (The Jordanian Army), whose military initiatives prevented the old city of Jerusalem and some of its neighbourhoods from falling into the hands of the Israeli Haganah forces. The battle for Jerusalem was in fact the only recorded meaningful Arab military victory during the entire 1948-1949 war.
